Luke 19:1-10

This is the tale of a man named Zak
Who stole some cash and then gave it back
Here’s what happened now listen in
And hear how Zacchaeus turned from sin

He was a chief collector of tax
So he had money, stacks and stacks
Cos he cheated people, took more than he should
He wasn’t much liked – He wasn’t too good

He heard that Jesus was coming to town
He wanted to meet this man of reknown
Now there’s something here that I should report
Zak had a problem – He was short

So when he came near where Jesus was
He was disappointed because
The crowd was blocking this small man’s view
O what, O what was he going to do

Well he ran ahead and he climbed a tree
That should make it easier to see
Since Jesus Christ was coming that way
This was the place for him to stay

But when Jesus finally reached that place
He looked straight up into Zacchaeus’ face
And said “Zak come down now for today
I want to come to your house to stay”

Zak was glad – He came straight down
And welcomed Jesus to his house in town
Which by the way was in Jericho
As those who’ve heard the story will know

Now the people of the town saw all of this
And said to themselves “Hey something’s amiss
Jesus shouldn’t be sitting down for dinner
With Zacchaeus, because he’s a sinner”

But Zak stood up and spoke from the heart
“Lord, look I want to make a new start
I give half of all I have to the poor
I’ll pay back all I’ve stolen times four”

Jesus rejoiced and was heard to say
“Salvation has come to this house today
‘Cos this man too is a child of faith
For the lost I’ve come to seek and save”
